How do you design a dynamic, interactive, visual interface that can transform any data into a relational map?

Mark Tinkler, creative director for the New York-based company Plumbdesign, designed the Thinkmap java applet to translate data into a three-dimensional concatenation of hubs and spokes. The
Visual Thesaurus was
created with Thinkmap and demonstrates
its knack for capturing relational information in a visual way that

Thinkmap
gives the user dynamic control over how much information to view in real-time.
The user simply types in a word and its synonyms appear in a moveable diagram with multiple relationships and connections accessible by rolling the curser through the space. |
While the current incarnation of the Visual Thesaurus may be less practical than the average word processor thesaurus, it points to a not-too-distant future in which spatial reasoning might facilitate the understanding of linguistic and other "non-spatial" disciplines. |
